Island Construction & Dimensions

The Host is built as a modular system: a marine-grade aluminum frame clad in natural stone, topped with a 3 cm natural granite countertop. Aluminum does not rust, and every panel is labeled so the island goes together in the right order. The granite is precision cut for this layout, so each appliance drops straight into its opening.
Overall Length96" (8 ft)
Overall Depth27"
Counter Height36" + 3 cm granite
Island WeightApprox. 640 lbs
Weight with AppliancesApprox. 910 lbs
FrameMarine Grade Aluminum
ExteriorNatural Stone
Countertop3 cm Natural Granite
Rear Wall Clearance3 - 4" (for countertop overhang)
WarrantyLifetime
Natural stone and granite vary in color, veining and slight thickness from piece to piece. This is part of their character and means no two islands look exactly alike.

Shipping & Delivery

The Host is too large for parcel delivery, so it ships by LTL (less-than-truckload) freight on two pallets: a heavy-duty wooden crate with the island structure and granite (approx. 640 lbs), and a second pallet with the Blaze appliances (approx. 270 lbs). Your kitchen ships within 10 - 12 business days and arrives 2 - 3 business days later. Shipping is free, and no sales tax is charged.
The freight carrier will call you to schedule a delivery appointment, and someone 18 or older needs to be home to receive it. Delivery is curbside: the driver lowers the pallets to your curb or driveway with a liftgate, and moving them into your backyard is not included. The island crate can be opened where it lands and the panels carried back one at a time by two or three people, so plan a clear path to the installation spot. Deliveries are made with a large freight truck, so let us know before ordering if your street has size restrictions, a gated entrance or a long, steep driveway.
Inspect before you sign. Check both pallets for damage before signing the delivery receipt. If anything looks damaged, write it on the receipt (for example "crate damaged") and take photos, then contact us right away and we will take care of it.

Preparing Your Space

The island is designed to be assembled on site, but a few things need to be in place at your home first. Plan for these early; they are the most common cause of installation delays.
  • A level, load-bearing base: a poured concrete pad is recommended. Uneven ground or decking can cause shifting, panel misalignment or tipping.
  • Space behind the island: leave 3 to 4 inches between the back of the island and any wall or structure so the granite overhang fits.
  • Gas supply: a natural gas line run to the island, or a propane tank. All gas connections must be made by a licensed plumber or gas technician to local code. On propane models the grill includes a hose regulator.
  • Electrical: a GFCI-protected 115V outdoor outlet at the island for the refrigerator (15A) and the grill's lighting, installed by a licensed electrician. The drawer lights run on batteries.
  • Ventilation: the island's built-in vent panels must stay unblocked to prevent gas buildup. Follow the Blaze LTE+ manual for clearances to combustible walls, fences and overhangs, and consider a vent hood if the island will sit under a roof or pergola.
  • Climate note: the refrigerator is rated for ambient temperatures of 60 - 90°F. Shade helps it perform best in hot climates.

Professional Installation

Most of our customers prefer to have their kitchen installed by a pro, and we make that easy. Designing Backyards works with a network of vetted installation professionals who know our kitchens and can take care of everything from unpacking the crate to the final gas and electrical connections.
Because every backyard is different, installation is quoted separately for each project. The price depends on the kitchen, the work your site needs and your location.

How It Works

  • 1. Tell us about your space: after you order (or before, if you would like a quote first), share your address, a few photos of the installation area and what is already in place, such as a concrete pad, gas line or outdoor outlet.
  • 2. Get your quote: we match you with an installation pro in our network near you and send you a quote for your project.
  • 3. Schedule: installation is scheduled for after your kitchen is delivered, so everything is ready when the installer arrives.
  • 4. Enjoy: your installer assembles the island, sets the granite and appliances, and walks you through your new kitchen.

What Affects the Price

Your installation quote reflects the work your project actually needs: assembling the kitchen (unpacking, frame and panels, granite, appliances, doors and drawers), pouring or leveling a concrete pad if you do not already have one, running a gas line to the island or setting up propane, adding a GFCI outdoor outlet, how far and how easily materials can be moved from the curb to your backyard, and local permit requirements and installer availability in your area.
Prefer to do it yourself? The Host is designed to be assembled with basic tools and light construction experience. See the DIY section below. Gas and electrical connections must still be made by licensed professionals.

Do-It-Yourself Assembly

The Host is a modular system with labeled panels and purpose-designed hardware. A handy homeowner with two or three helpers can assemble the island in about 3 to 4 hours with basic tools and light construction experience. The main tool is a power screw gun with a Phillips bit and a 5/16" hex driver; 36" clamps and a level are helpful, and work gloves and safety glasses are recommended when handling stone and granite. Our step-by-step assembly guide walks through the same sequence a professional installer follows.

How It Comes Together

  • 1. Unpack: open the panel side of the crate first. The granite stays secured on the other side until the panels are out, since it supports the crate.
  • 2. Build the frame: stand the rear panels in place, then attach the side and front panels by matching their letter labels, using the supplied L-brackets and flat brackets.
  • 3. Set the granite: lift each countertop piece into place (never slide it) and check that seams, edges and appliance openings line up.
  • 4. Drop in the appliances: lower the grill and slide the refrigerator into their openings. Nothing should need to be forced.
  • 5. Install the door and drawers: attach the combo to the frame with self-drilling screws, then the handles.
  • 6. Final check and seal: once everything is aligned, the countertop is permanently secured.
  • 7. Connect utilities: a licensed professional connects the gas and checks for leaks, and the refrigerator and grill plug into the outlet. Then follow the Blaze burn-in instructions before your first cook.

Warranty

The island structure is backed by a lifetime warranty from Designing Backyards. The Blaze appliances carry Blaze's own manufacturer warranties: lifetime on the main components of the LTE+ grill, a 1-year limited warranty on the refrigerator, and Blaze coverage on the door and drawer combo. For anything related to your island, contact us first; we will handle it directly or work with Blaze on your behalf.

Cancellations & Returns

  • Within 48 hours of purchase: cancel for a full 100% refund.
  • After 48 hours: your kitchen goes into production. The island structure is built to order and is not refundable, but we will refund the cost of the Blaze appliances.
