Preparing Your Space
- A level, load-bearing base: a poured concrete pad is recommended. Uneven ground or decking can cause shifting, panel misalignment or tipping.
- Space behind the island: leave 3 to 4 inches between the back of the island and any wall or structure so the granite overhang fits.
- Gas supply: a natural gas line run to the island, or a propane tank. All gas connections must be made by a licensed plumber or gas technician to local code. On propane models the grill includes a hose regulator.
- Water and drain: a water supply line and a drain line run to the island for the sink, connected by a licensed plumber to local code. Ask your plumber about winterizing the lines if you live where temperatures drop below freezing.
- Electrical: a GFCI-protected 115V outdoor outlet at the island for the grill lighting, installed by a licensed electrician.
- Ventilation: the island's built-in vent panels must stay unblocked to prevent gas buildup. Follow the Blaze LTE+ manual for clearances to combustible walls, fences and overhangs, and consider a vent hood if the island will sit under a roof or pergola.
Professional Installation
How It Works
- 1. Tell us about your space: after you order (or before, if you would like a quote first), share your address, a few photos of the installation area and what is already in place, such as a concrete pad, gas line, water line or outdoor outlet.
- 2. Get your quote: we match you with an installation pro in our network near you and send you a quote for your project.
- 3. Schedule: installation is scheduled for after your kitchen is delivered, so everything is ready when the installer arrives.
- 4. Enjoy: your installer assembles the island, sets the granite and appliances, and walks you through your new kitchen.
What Affects the Price
Do-It-Yourself Assembly
How It Comes Together
- 1. Unpack: open the panel side of the crate first. The granite stays secured on the other side until the panels are out, since it supports the crate.
- 2. Build the frame: stand the rear panels in place, then attach the side and front panels by matching their letter labels, using the supplied L-brackets and flat brackets.
- 3. Set the granite: lift each countertop piece into place (never slide it) and check that seams, edges and appliance openings line up.
- 4. Install the grill and sink: lower the grill into its opening, secure the undermount sink beneath its cutout and mount the faucet. Nothing should need to be forced.
- 5. Install the storage: attach the door and drawer combo, the access door and the trash bin to the frame with self-drilling screws, then the handles.
- 6. Final check and seal: once everything is aligned, the countertop is permanently secured.
- 7. Connect utilities: a licensed professional connects the gas and checks for leaks, a licensed plumber connects the water supply and drain, and the grill lights plug into the outlet. Then follow the Blaze burn-in instructions before your first cook.

Frequently asked questions
Can I change the appliances or the layout of my outdoor kitchen island?
Our pre-designed outdoor kitchen islands (The Minimalist, The Host, The Bistro, The Scout, The Corner Suite, The Griddle Master, The Urban Pro and The Socialite) are fixed designs. Each one has a set layout, a set size and a set package of Blaze appliances, and that is exactly what lets us offer it at a set price.
Why the design is fixed
Every island is built as a modular system: a marine-grade aluminum frame clad in natural stone, with every panel labeled for assembly, and a 3 cm natural granite countertop precision cut with an opening for each appliance. Because the granite and panels are made for one specific layout, swapping an appliance or changing the size would mean a different countertop and a different frame.
What if I want something different?
If you want different appliances, a different size or a different shape, our designers can build a fully custom outdoor kitchen for you. It is the same quality of kitchen, designed around your space instead of a fixed layout.
Schedule a call with an outdoor kitchen expert to talk through your project.
Can you install my outdoor kitchen island for me?
Yes. Most of our customers prefer to have their kitchen installed by a pro, and we make that easy. Designing Backyards works with a network of vetted installation professionals who know our kitchens and can take care of everything from unpacking the crate to the final gas and electrical connections.
How professional installation works
- Tell us about your space: after you order (or before, if you would like a quote first), share your address, a few photos of the installation area and what is already in place, such as a concrete pad, gas line, water line or outdoor outlet.
- Get your quote: we match you with an installation pro in our network near you and send you a quote for your project.
- Schedule: installation is scheduled for after your kitchen is delivered, so everything is ready when the installer arrives.
- Enjoy: your installer assembles the island, sets the granite and appliances, and walks you through your new kitchen.
What affects the installation price?
Because every backyard is different, installation is quoted separately for each project. Your quote reflects the work your project actually needs:
- Assembling the kitchen: unpacking, frame and panels, granite, appliances, doors and drawers
- Pouring or leveling a concrete pad if you do not already have one
- Running a gas line to the island or setting up propane
- Plumbing the water supply and drain, on islands with a sink
- Adding a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet
- How far and how easily materials can be moved from the curb to your backyard
- Local permit requirements and installer availability in your area
Prefer to do it yourself? Our islands are designed to be assembled with basic tools and light construction experience. Gas, plumbing and electrical connections must still be made by licensed professionals.
What if I switch from propane to natural gas later?
Yes. When you order one of our outdoor kitchen islands, you choose natural gas or propane, and the Blaze appliances ship set up for the fuel type you select. If you switch later, they can be converted.
Which appliances can be converted
- Blaze LTE+ grills: come with interchangeable propane and natural gas orifices.
- Blaze LTE+ double side burners (The Urban Pro and The Corner Suite): also come with interchangeable orifices.
- Blaze LTE+ 30-inch griddle (The Griddle Master and The Socialite): can also be converted between propane and natural gas.
You do not need to replace the appliances. The conversion must be done by a licensed gas professional, who will also make the new gas connection to local code and check for leaks.
Planning your gas supply
- Natural gas: a natural gas line needs to be run to the island by a licensed plumber or gas technician.
- Propane: a propane tank is not included. On propane models, the grill includes a hose regulator, and on islands with a griddle, the griddle includes its own.
Can my own contractor install my outdoor kitchen island?
Absolutely. Our outdoor kitchen islands are modular systems with labeled panels and purpose-designed hardware, and our step-by-step assembly guide walks through the same sequence a professional installer follows.
What to share with your contractor
Share the island assembly guide and the documents in the Downloads section of your island's product page: Blaze spec sheets, appliance manuals, parts diagrams and the Blaze Dimensions & Cutout Guide. Everything they need is there.
Who handles the utilities
Your contractor can assemble the island, but gas, plumbing and electrical work must be done by licensed professionals:
- Gas connections by a licensed plumber or gas technician, to local code
- Water supply and drain, on islands with a sink, by a licensed plumber
- A GFCI-protected 115V outdoor outlet by a licensed electrician
Tools for assembly
The main tool is a power screw gun with a Phillips bit and a 5/16" hex driver. 36" clamps and a level are helpful, and work gloves and safety glasses are recommended when handling stone and granite.
Can I cancel or return my outdoor kitchen island?
Yes, but the timing matters. Each of our outdoor kitchen islands is built to order, so what you can cancel or return depends on whether your kitchen has gone into production.
Within 24 hours of purchase
You can cancel for a full 100% refund, no questions asked.
After 24 hours
Your kitchen goes into production. The island structure is built to order and is not refundable, but we will refund the cost of the Blaze appliances.
The island structure includes the marine-grade aluminum frame, the natural stone panels and the 3 cm granite countertop cut for your layout. On islands with a sink, such as The Bistro, the sink is part of the island structure.
What if my kitchen arrives damaged?
That is not a return. Check both pallets for damage before signing the delivery receipt. If anything looks damaged, write it on the receipt (for example "crate damaged") and take photos, then contact us right away and we will take care of it.
Not sure yet?
If you are still deciding, talk to our outdoor kitchen team before you order. We are happy to review your space, your utilities and your timeline with you so you can buy with confidence.
I still have questions. Can I talk to someone?
Of course. Our outdoor kitchen team is happy to review your space, your utilities and your timeline with you before you order.
What we can help you with
- Choosing an island: which of our pre-designed islands fits your space and the way you cook.
- Preparing your space: a level, load-bearing base, 3 to 4 inches of clearance behind the island, and the gas, water and electrical connections it needs.
- Delivery: our islands ship free by LTL freight with curbside delivery, so let us know before ordering if your street has size restrictions, a gated entrance or a long, steep driveway.
- Installation: a quote from our network of installation pros, or guidance if you plan to assemble it yourself.
- Going custom: if none of our islands is the right fit, our designers can build a fully custom outdoor kitchen.
